Oh my..

poniesforparents reblogs one of my silly little thought spills, I gain a pile of followers.
Hello there everyone.

If you have anything you wish to ask me (be it fandom, food, or otherwise) feel free to shoot me an ask.
Haters will be pretty much ignored, unless I find a particularly amusing response.

On trolls and me.

I’ve received a couple of messages regarding doc-batemane and him being a troll.
Thanks for the concern folks, but I’m fine.

I had him pegged as a troll on the second post, hence my reply with sarcasm.
I’d like think that after over 15 years online, I’m able to pick up poorly veiled attacks on myself šŸ™‚

Though, this is a good opportunity for me to point out that this is exactly one of the behaviors I was highlighting in my posts yesterday.
Someone like myself can fairly easily brush off trolling, however there’s a great deal that can’t, and often, you won’t know how they’ll take the “humor” that gets thrown their way.

(Spread the word and get searching! It may even be a good idea to put this in your Queue to be posted every 6/7th and 19/20th as a reminder!)

#SafeSearchWrapUp is heavily community driven effort to help make the SafeSearch features on image-search engines such as GoogleImages, Bing, or Youtube be free of NSFW content. Every cartoon from ā€œAvatar: The Last Airbenderā€ to ā€œYoung Justiceā€ contains fan made pornographic works referred to as Rule-34. Rule-34 is a catch all term denoting porn of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, cartoon or not. However searching up images of any animated series will likely turn up these images, even on the first few pages.

As the teen and adult fans of the show, we have to be considerate of the younger target audience. A lot of parents and their children may be looking up images of their favorite characters to print out and put on their wall or such. As a community we can make image searching safer for the young ones and their parents. No shutting down or deleting things from existence, simply keeping it off SafeSearch as a courtesy for others.

image

The Game Plan:

Everyone should pick at least one search term they think would commonly used by kids and their parents, such as ā€œMy little pony twilight sparkleā€. You can search at your leisure through a few pages… say 5-10 at least? However, on the 7th and 20th of every month we can all do it in large droves. If the call is sent out all at the same time, like a tradition then more people are likely to participate. Additionally, if Google or Bing gets a lot of flags for the same image from a lot of people- we can assume they will be more likely to remove it.

What to look for? Gore, blood, penises, vaginas, and perhaps lingerie. Just use your best judgement. Honestly if its something you wouldn’t look at while at work or show to a kid, then its probably not something we want showing up in a safe-search! If you think it should be done out of safe search as well, then thats your call to make.

How To Flag:

On Google, simply enlarge an image and go to Send Feedback circled here and enter comment notifying them the image is ā€œnot suitable for childrenā€ or something along those lines. If you would like a video tutorial, courtesy of jackrahbit, then click here.:

On Bing, simply click the flag image in the lower left corner when you hover over an image. Then check the ā€œAdultā€ checkbox. If you would like, jackrahbit made a YouTube video showing how.Ā  Quick and easy! Lets do this!

Note: The original date was going to be the 15th of every month, however I decided to do it en masse twice a month instead.

Please clarify as to what the “unwanted parts” of the fandom are.

askasanebrony:

reis-food-and-fandom:

Unwanted would be the undesirable, or what one could commonly refer to as creepers.
Don’t look at this as me saying we should fight against R34 content either. I share a similar stance to the other blogs I mentioned at the start of my post in regards to it, I have no issues with (most) of it, as long as it’s kept where children won’t stumble across it.

The things we want to actively remove are the people who attack and abuse others for having a different opinion, harass people at events and so forth. basically, people who do things that are unwanted or illegal in society in general.

Now the numbers who do this are very low, probably lower than some other fandoms I’ve been in, however we’re not immune from it, and it’s one of the biggest things we get attack over every time. being seen to have a solid ā€œno means noā€ stance will help to alleviate some of that pressure.

There’s no easy solution, or ā€œquick fixā€ to this. it’s going to take time and effort from a huge number of people to achieve. It’s already started, We’ve just got to keep it going and to get more vocal in pushing it.

It’s extremely difficult to prevent people from doing bad stuff – unless you’re right there to tell them No That Is Not Acceptable.

I believe the best way to combat the problems we face is to lead by example – demonstrate how we should behave, with civility and responsibility.

This will not only attract others to follow suit, but discourage others who are acting inappropriately.

Celebrate your positive action. It may seem daft to pat yourself on the back for not screwing up – but these days, people should see that there are greater rewards for being good than being an asshole, the latter being something the internet tends to glorify.

Absolutely, it’s a primary point I make a lot.

We can’t stop everyone from doing things that we don’t want them to, but we can make it known that it’s not acceptable.
as nice as it would be to just “remove” the bad people from the fandom, it just can’t be done, if they want to say they’re a part of it, no one can really stop them. and this goes for every fandom really.

encouraging the positives should be the biggest focus for everyone when it comes to action IMHO. There will be claims we’re “trying to bury the bad stuff” but, often, that’s what you have to do, bury the negative with so much positive that it gets crushed into obscurity. it won’t go away, it never will, but the constant focus on it doesn’t help much either.

it’s worth noting, this post was is a clarification to a part of this one I made before it:Ā http://chef-pony-rei.tumblr.com/post/84911477588/as-a-member-of-the-brony-community-what-3-things-do

“askaSANEbrony” SANE. Yeah. Because sanity is a good word to use and not another word that stigmatizes mental patients & mental illness. Yeppers. You’re doing a fan-fucking-tastic job of trying to appear as the voice of reason here, Mod. No ableist language in your url AT ALL.

asknethesem:

Words have more than one meaning my friend. They can have different base meanings, their meaning can also change depending on context.
My blog title uses a different meaning to the one you’re referring to, and is in the context of describing myself, not other people.
If I were to belittle a person based on their physical or mental disposition, that would be ablism. Until that time comes, I’d recommend you spend your breath supporting a positive cause helping those who feel alone and uncertain.
I wish you good fortune on that endeavour.
SANE
/seÉŖn/
– reasonable or sensible.
“a sane discussion of the important social issues of our time”
synonyms:Ā sensible,Ā practical,Ā advisable,Ā responsible,Ā realistic,
full of common sense,Ā prudent,Ā circumspect,Ā pragmatic,Ā wise,
reasonable,Ā rational,Ā mature,Ā level-headed,Ā commonsensical,
judicious,Ā politic,Ā sound,Ā balanced,Ā sober…

Now that’s some major swinging and hoping to catch some straws there from the anon.

Hey anon, if you’re going to attack someone on the words they use in their name, how about learning what the words actually mean, eh?

At this rate, they’ll probably claim my blog is belittling to people with eating disorders because I have the word chef in it…
(Seriously, wouldn’t surprise me)
