One of my pet hates..

Is people with double standards..
You’re going to complain about something the group I associate with does?, fine. I can accept that, but you’d better damn well look at your own things with exactly the same light.

I’ll accept that there are elements in the brony community that are highly unsavory, and I firmly believe people should be called out for unacceptable practices (things like posting NSFW content where children can see it, harassing people etc..)
But when you use the argument that bronies are scum because they like a show whose *primary* target audience is young girl, all you’re saying to me is that people should only watch content produced for *their* specific target audience. Sorry, this just makes you an asshole.

Like any big fandom, the brony one has more than its share of creeps. This is an unfortunate side effect of being a large group, and one that takes a large amount of effort to purge.
When people post fake and/or exaggerated stories of things that happen at a gathering or convention, these only add to odds that when an accurate account of something is posted in future, that it’ll be dismissed. (this applies to ALL fandoms by the way).

On the other side of the coin, many bronies need to take a good hard look at how we, as a fandom, are being viewed, and need to realize, we HAVE to be much more proactive in shutting down the bad elements of the fandom.
The mantra “love and tolerate” that so many of us like, simply does NOT cut it. There’s many things floating around within the fandom that should NOT be loved OR tolerated. These things MUST be called out for what they truly are, unacceptable and unwanted practices, items or behavior.

I know I’m going cop a ton of flak for this rant.. But honestly, I just had to purge it from my system.
I love being a brony, I love the show and a TON of the content this fandom produces (even some of the NSFW content).
But some of what I see just gives me chills…

In the end though.. This has all that really needs to be said.. http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19/

Excuse me while I now dump a bucket of ice over my head to cool off…

Big rant (sort of anyway) coming later today, been mulling it all morning so far, and I have several more hours of work to formulate parts of it.

Headcanon accepted. I like this idea actually.

I really like this idea, too!

Works with my ideas.
I also see pegasus wings as being really sensitive to touch. (this works well with the “no touching without asking” part)
The closest comparison to how it would be that I can think of off the top of my head is the neck.
For the most part it doesn’t matter, but juuuust the right spot or amount of pressure…

The real question is, where did e get those sheets? I want that bed spread.

It’s a pretty nice bedspread, actually. I’d gladly get one for my hypothetical daughter. 😀

I’ll be your hypothetical daughter if you buy me that bedspread.

I fail to see how this one’s so bad? Lots of people have slept with plushies for comfort at some point (not that kind of “sleeping with”, get your mind out of the gutter) and lots of people have had themed bedspreads before.

It’s not like he’s screwing the plushie or – *GASP* – putting it on a desk or anything horrible like that. He’s snuggled up to a plushie, that’s all. I have a friend about my age (I’m 21) who I know has plush huskies that she sleeps with.

My entire bed is covered in stuffed animals and pillows. *shrugs* I’m 21. P8

I’m 24, and I WANT a plushie to sleep with, though I don’t have one. (they’re expensive x_x)

I have no shame in this. Adults who keep in contact with their inner child are the mentally healthiest people in my opinion.

I’m 30, and I freaking LOVE my plushies..
I sleep with a big rainbow dash one at home, and a smaller rainbow dash and twilight while on site.
I also have a shelf in my living room piled with them. (ranging from anime, to WoW/Starcraft, to MLP)

Hello MandoMommy. What was your first reaction when you found out what a brony was?

:

Basically a “non-reaction”.

I never fall for one stereotype to fit everyone in a group.  Any group is made up of individuals, each with their own personality, style and morals so it was no big deal for me.

I don’t see a “Brony” as being anything more than a fan of the show … and I quite like it that way 😉

This actually ties in with my earlier post on the matter quite well.

I thought that ‘bronies’ was just a general term for MLP fans. What exactly is the distinction? Every person I’ve talked to thus far who identifies with the term ‘brony’ has been a genuinely good person. I don’t understand all the hate- it just seems little more than 4chan-ish name-calling and gender role policing to me that just seems to do more harm than good. Isn’t the point of MLP about being non-judgemental and inclusive of everyone? That was Lauren Faust’s intention in the first place.

It’s just a title. I can use it or not use it. It’s up to you if you want to use it or not. I just prefer to be called a fan.

Pretty much this.

It is just a title. I personally identify as a brony, mostly because it’s just easier for me where I am. (Only one where I work who’s actually a fan of the show)

The decision to return to calling myself a brony is a recent one for me. I used to use it when I first joined the fandom, before several bad experiences, both online and with a local brony group, turned me off it completely for a long time.
However now, after watching from a distance for a while, I’m feeling comfortable with the title again.
Many of the bad elements are still there, but it’s almost impossible to remove those from anything, the best that can be done, to my mind, is to not let them overcome the good parts.
