“Brony” is the nickname given to the adult (mostly male) fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Their community—which is large, voracious and one of the most widely-ridiculed fan collectives this side of Equestria—gathers annually in a convention center to celebrate their enthusiasm for friendship tolerance and MLP. This year, I joined them.

I feel you there, I sometime come across the same thing with my work.

“Yes, I’m aware that I’m nice to you each morning when you come in to eat, but that’s my job.IM not going to risk my job doing a ‘favor’ for you because you mistakenly think we’re friends for some reason” (I actually had to say that to someone the other day too…)

Personal and professional relationships are fairly clear cut in most cases. Sure the lines can blur a lot, but they tend to be fairly easy to differentiate. But I guess some people have trouble telling them apart, maybe a lack of any real experience? I don’t know.

I feel like it happens more with people who don’t get a lot of IRL human interaction, so as soon as someone is nice to them they think it means instant friendship. So yeah, I think you have a point there.

I personally can’t keep track of a lot of people, largely because of my anxiety disorder and how it negatively affects my ability to retain information. 

If I even tried to make friends with everyone who messaged me, I would have time for nothing else.

So yeah. Unless I heavily imply/outright say otherwise, y’all can assume our relationship is a professional one.

Haha, we are so similar on the front of not being able to remember people. I deal with the same 100 or so people here most days, and I still barely know 20 of them after a year, haha.
I’m so bad at remembering names.

That’s exactly why I’m always careful to make it clear that I’m obviously joking when I do something like the “best pony” line.
Tone doesn’t translate to text, something I wish more people who are online would realise. I’d probably save a ton of drama.

Definitely. It’s the same thing anywhere you go really.
I can wear my pony gear in the suburb I live in and no one even looks twice.
If I drive to one 20 minutes away (which I have to for cosplay stuff time to time) oh jeez, no end of grief from people as I walk around. (I mean, sure, the place IS packed with bogans after all, but still)

fucking hell, I ran out of Rotisserie chickens for the first time tonight… (it is a surprisingly busy Monday) remember how I said you’re judged fully on whether or not you have chickens?… I’ve been approached by literally every member of management…

oh, I can absolutely relate.

I hope you don’t get any real problems from it though, from what you said it’s completely out of the ordinary to be that busy. In this industry, it’s impossible to predict people.

heck, I work in an environment where I often know exactly how many I’ll be feeding each day, and so often I get caught because they all decide they suddenly want one particular thing, all at once, even if they haven’t touched it for a week. It’s made me want to facedesk several times.

as for your co-workers, yeah, that’s a hard situation to deal with. I tend not to worry too much with it happening where I am, I’m essentially a loner most of the time anyway, and my shift results in my being on my own anyway (I finish late morning, no one else finishes before late afternoon)
