This morning we were alerted to a new kind of fan event that was supposedly being planned for the future. Not like a convention or meetup, but rather a brony theme cruise. Instantly we were suspicious, as that’s the type of thing another pariah was known for a couple years back.

After a morning of digging, it is certain: Be Warned – this cruise is likely a scam.

Update: It’s fucking GONE
Prior to the nuking of the site, the banner image was the first google image result for the search “rarity”, implying whoever made it, did so in a hurry.

There was no contact page, and the only contact email “admin@bronycruise.com” was a fake. we discovered that when we attempted to contact them earlier.

Luckily we found a working email, as whoever was running this, saw fit to send emails out to several other pony sites asking for promotion. Also: we had this!

The registrar – Jacob Dominguez – didn’t put privacy protection on his site when he registered it with godaddy, so we have all the info we needed to see if he was on the up-and-up.
Short story: He’s not.
Within minutes, we found DOZENS of hits on his name for being a Cruise Scammer, who has been doing this sort of thing for YEARS. 

Using his address we also found an extensive criminal background that may be linked to him.

It looks now like Jacob may have got the message and made a run for the hills, so it’s fortunate we caught this before he was able to get a dollar from anyone.

But, if he returns, be cautious.

IMPORTANT! Don’t let anyone you know get caught out by this!

This is hilarious as hell.

We’ve only got one person who’s applied for the list! Today’s list is postponed another day to give people more time to get their heads together (and/or have this post reach them).

My Little Pony toys have attracted a new wave of unexpected fans – ‘bros who like ponies’ or ‘bronies’ who aren’t so young and revel in some of the positive messages they say the toys can bring.

it’s nice to actual reporting that doesn’t attempt to make the fandom out as some kind of joke.
there’s a few minor quibbles I have with it, but for what it’s worth, it’s a positive story, which is good to see.

I’m not 100% sure, and this is probably gonna sound conceited… But I think I might have unitentionally caused the country…

pftftftftftft i didn’t even know the anime until people told me like ‘hey ya know hetaillia or something? blah blah blah’ XD and hmm maybe i did get inspired by ur 4th of july pic thing… but it wasn’t the only inspiration, i guess its coincidence XP

Seriously, the anime didn’t even enter into the equation of this for us. most of us jumped into the idea after USA pony started a competition on her blog, and we decided to create our blogs, pretty much all at the same time then.

it honestly wasn’t until a couple of weeks later really that the topic of hetalia even came up. but I don’t think any of us (that I’m aware of anyway) have even seen it. We just thought the idea was nifty, and ran with it.

The characters are our own, with personalities based on our own perceptions and experiences with the country that they are meant to represent, any similarities with the anime are honestly, pure chance.
